Over 2,000 were manufactured, largely serving with South African units. Entering service in 1943, the Mk. 4 was a complete redesign of the Marmon Herrington line of armoured cars. Also used by British, Indian, Free French, Polish, Dutch, Belgian, and Greek forces. Postwar, some served with the Arab Legion during the 1948 Arab Israeli war and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. A few were still active into the 1990s with Greek forces.
